Using the Digital Atlas of Oklahoma on Windows 95

NOTES: 1. The use of trade names is for descriptive purposes only, and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.

The Digital Atlas of Oklahoma was released April 23, 1997 on two CD-ROMs. The "ArcView Disc" contains the 25 data sets in PC ARC/INFO1 format, and includes ArcView®, Version 1.0, by Environmental Systems Research Institute(ESRI), Inc. ArcView 1.0 is copyrighted software, but is provided free. ArcView 1.0 works only on Microsoft Windows® 3.0 or 3.1. It will not work on Windows 95, Windows NT, Unix® or Macintosh®. The current version of ArcView, Version 3.0, is available from ESRI for those operating systems. The data sets on the Digital Atlas of Oklahoma ArcView Disc will work with any version of ArcView, but only ArcView 1.0 is available for free.

ESRI now offers a product called ArcExplorer, which may meet the needs of many Windows 95 and NT users for accessing the Digital Atlas of Oklahoma. ArcExplorer is available for free download from  http://www.esri.com/. (Please note the U.S. Geological Survey has not tested this product and does not endorse this or other commercial products.)

An alternative Window 95 users may want to consider is to set up their PC so it can boot either DOS/Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. Many shareware and commercial software packages are available to make this possible.
