Description: Boundaries of wildlife refuges, Indian reserves or
reservation, prisons, military installations, parks, etc.

 Abstract:

This data set consists of digital administrative boundaries for
the State of Oklahoma. The boundaries were derived from
U.S. Geological Survey 1:100,000-scale Digital Line Graph data
sets. The boundaries identify areas such as national and state
forests and grasslands, wildlife refuges, Indian reserves or
reservation, federal and state prisons, military installations,
and national, state, county, and city parks.
*The boundary for the Chickasaw National Recreation Area was
taken from the National Park Service's National Park System
Boundary Dataset created by the National Park Service.

 Introduction:

This data set consists of digital administrative boundaries for
the State of Oklahoma. The boundaries were derived from
U.S. Geological Survey 1:100,000-scale Digital Line Graph (DLG)
data sets (U.S. Geological Survey, 1994). The boundaries identify
areas such as national and state forests and grasslands, wildlife
refuges, Indian reserves or reservation, federal and state
prisons, military installations, and national, state, county, and
city parks. This data set provides a standard set of generalized
administrative boundaries for state agencies and public use.

 Purpose:

This data set was developed to provide a standard set of
generalized administrative boundaries for state agencies and public
   use.

 Supplemental_Information:

 Process_Step:

Process_Description: The 1:100,000-scale DLG boundary files were
    downloaded by anonymous ftp,
    ftp://edcftp.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/DLG/100K. The directories are
organized alphabetically by quadrangle name. The DLG data sets are
    located in the 'boundary' subdirectory.

Process_Description: The 416 files were unblocked and converted to
ARC/INFO export file format (ESRI, 1995). Attributes for major and
    minor code pairs were added.

Process_Description: Data sets were combined in sets of eight
using the ARC/INFO command APPEND (ESRI, 1995). This step resulted
in 52 data sets, each representing a single 1:100,000-scale
map. The state code attribute was added. The 52 data sets were
edited so only polygons within Oklahoma remained. The data sets
were combined into three datasets, based upon Universal Transverse
Mercator grid zones. Several attribute codes were combined
producing an attribute containing the boundary codes. The ARC/INFO
command DISSOLVE (ESRI, 1995) was used to eliminate extra
boundaries. The data sets were projected to the current
projection. The three data sets were combined into one data set
using the ARC/INFO command APPEND, (ESRI, 1995). The ARC/INFO
command DISSOLVE (ESRI, 1995) was used to eliminate extra
    boundaries.

Process_Description: The original dataset contained the boundaries
for the Chickasaw National Recreation Area (CNRA) and the
Chickasaw Wildlife Management Area (CNWMA). These two boundaries
were determined to be out of date and were replaced with a current
boundary from the National Park Service. The current version of
the CNRA boundary incorporates the old CNRA and CNWMA boundaries.

 Revisions:

Revision 1.0 12/27/96, Mark Gregory. Digital atlas of Oklahoma
   version.

Revision 1.1 12/2/2002, Mike Sughru. Replaced the Chickasaw National
National Recreation Boundary with a current version.

 Reviews_Applied_to_Data:

The Digital Atlas of Oklahoma was reviewed by 13 technical
reviewers. Because of the large volume of data (nearly 1.3 million
points, lines or polygons divided into 861 separate data sets) the
reviewers could not thoroughly check the accuracy of all geographic
features in the data sets. Reviewers were asked to check the
topological consistency, tolerances, attribute frequencies and
statistics, projection, and geographic extent. The reviewers were
asked to check the metadata and other documentation files for
completeness and accuracy. Users should exercise caution and
judgment in applying these data, and be aware that errors may be
present in any or all of the digital map data layers.
